For over a decade the B&FYC event of a Knott End Return has been absent from our programme.
The basic format has been to sail to Knott End on the morning tide and return on the evening tide. This year’s event is in the sailing programme for the 8th of May. This event requires a
lot of planning and support but I think we are nearly there and more details will be published on the website soon, so please keep looking on there.
This event has a bit of something for everyone and with prior formats being changed slightly, we have, hopefully come up with a day where all the diverse sectors of the club can come and have fun! For Flying Fifteens & the dinghies there will be a race to Knott End and possibly a race back, if not a cruise back up the river in company as a club (so bring a torch). This also presents the chance for those fleets to undertake some windward-leeward and Olympic triangle racecourses which is difficult to facilitate in the Skippool basin.
For social sailors there is the opportunity for a full day of sailing, with dinghies being able to be hauled onto the beach, to be sailed as and when between topping up your tan. Powerboats and Offshore boats may also be able to join in on the fun, please speak to your appropriate Captains or secretaries for more information, be it cruising, racing or just for the social.
We are aware that some social distancing measures will remain in place however if everything proceeds as planned we are hopeful to hold this day, as I, like many of you will have such enthusiasm to get out there on the water and make the most of the event.
