We have active offshore fleets sailing out of Fleetwood and Windermere and welcome any boats or crew to join in. Yachts are always looking for crew and minimal experience is required. It can be quite daunting crewing in a race so I (Ian Wilson) can arrange some taster sessions for anyone interested. This will involve some training in the marina then a high water sail to put the theory in to practice.
The racing is generally combined with other clubs as that allows for decent sized fleets though results are also calculated separately for BFYC yachts so double the chance of a trophy!
The main offshore racing takes place out of the marina with a spring and autumn series mainly over a Saturday lunchtime tide though Fleetwood to Piel races are also included. It is laid back racing with boats of varying size and performance. We have single handed sailors and fully crewed boats and use the old PY handicaps to even the results up. It’s a great way to hone those sailing skills.
This year Roa Sailing Club have offered a warm invitation to BFYC boats to join their racing off Walney. This could work quite well as yachts can sail over in a morning, race and then come back on the evening tide. The racing is in the summer so presents minimal overlap with the racing out of Fleetwood.
In addition BFYC yachts are entering other events such as the MBSA Piel races and the Round IOM on the 8th July.
Please contact myself and I can forward dates for the Fleetwood and Roa island races and MBSA races. In due course a consolidated diary will be available for download.
Previous club discounts are not being offered for 2018 but the committee has agreed to provide up to three free nights berthing per annum for each members boats. Typically ABP also offer £10.00 berths
• If you wish to use the marina, contact Jonathan Clarke our Club Bar Manager. His details are in the handbook.
• Jonathan will arrange your stay with the Marina staff and confirm this to you. Please don't go trying to make these arrangements yourself as no-one will accept your booking.
•At this point, you must email, fax or deliver by hand a copy of your insurance details to the Marina for their records. Once this has been accepted you will be allowed to use the Marina.
• Please never, never just turn up in the Marina and try to use the "I have come down from the Yacht Club" card and try to bully your way in. This will be met with their regular charge and payable by you immediately.
As most of the members are aware we have a good contingent of yachts on Windermere again this year competing in the IRC and PY Winter Series, this also incorporates the IRC inland championships.
