The 1st Wyre Light Challenge Race 8th May 2020
The concept was born around 1 year ago. As you know our annual Eskimo event is held in the tidal basin in front of Blackpool & Fleetwood Yacht Club; however thoughts started to surface about a race down the river and back. The challenges of a twisting and turning estuary, varying tidal flow, differences in areas of the river, the change in waters from a starting point 5 miles from the sea with small to no waves, to the sea with potentially a bit of a swell. Realising these challenges we started to build an outline of the event.
The hope is to reach the Wyre Light which stands 7 miles from Blackpool & Fleetwood Yacht Club on the North Wharf Sandbank which marks the Lune Deeps and the start of the navigation channel of the Wyre.
Spectators will be able to view along the river bank, but please remember it will be a high tide so pick viewing spots safely. There will also be a live stream (weather permitting) to a large screen in the club house with refreshments available and commentary, along with a fantastic view of the starting and finishing line.
The race will be open to Flying Fifteens and dinghies of a PY between that of an RS400 and a Laser Radial. There will be 2 fleets with the fastest boat in the slower fleet being an RS200.
Entry forms, Notice of Race and Sailing instructions are below, along with an entry list. The maximum entry will be 50 boats per fleet, entry fee is £15.00 for a double hander and £10.00 for a single hander.
